Old roofs were replaced, new toilets were installed, the kitchen upgraded, disfigured wooden doors replaced, and water tanks installed to collect and store rainwater. As a finishing touch, the hostel was given a fresh coat of paint.

RURAL STUDENT HOSTEL

The Need

Home is where you feel safe and comfortable. This is however not the case with children residing at Asrama Bantaran Joy Centre (ABJC), Sikuati.  ABJC is a students’ hostel, a second home providing accommodation for students attending school in Sikuati who otherwise have to travel miles by motorbike or van back to their home everyday. The hostel was in rundown condition when we visited it.

Our Involvement

BEST Society through funds from ConocoPhillips has helped with hostel renovations and improvements, giving it a facelift.

The Impact

Old roofs were replaced, new toilets were installed, the kitchen upgraded, disfigured wooden doors replaced, and water tanks installed to collect and store rainwater. As a finishing touch, the hostel was given a fresh coat of paint.

The restoration works created an atmosphere that is conducive for 40 registered students of 2014/2015 batch. They can now have a good night’s rest and a more convenient study environment. Hostel wardens have the newly-renovated kitchen to make use of for preparing meals.
