Sarala Aikanathan has about 25years experience in the field of environmental economics and natural sciences, with extensive experience in design and management of projects in Malaysia, South-east Asia and North Africa. She graduated with a PhD in Environmental Economic from University Malaya, Kuala Lumpur and has a Master of Science from the University of New Castle upon Tyne, England.
Currently, Sarala is undertaking projects with the Malaysian Palm Oil Council (MPOC) and the Faculty of Economy and Administration, University Malaya, Kuala Lumpur, focusing on agriculture sustainability and green trade development.
Prior to this, she worked at RSPO (Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil) until October 2010 and was the Director at Wetlands International, Malaysia Office for Wetlands International Netherlands. Wetlands International is a non-profit organization whose mission is to sustain and restore wetlands, their resources and biodiversity for future generations. Her extra curricula efforts include community building projects and media works producing documentaries, films, etc.
