Launching of MUKEST Society

KIULU, 9th June, 2016 – Borneo Eco Tours (BET) and BEST Society (BEST) recently have helped set up a new association, Mukim Ulu Kiulu Ecotourism Solutions and Technologies (MUKEST) Society to oversee the community development in Kiulu Farmstay. Kiulu Farmstay is a community based tourism attraction that offers tourists an atmosphere of hospitality with rich culture, peaceful and healthy lifestyle of the Dusun ethnic group. MUKEST has been successfully registered under The Registry of Society Malaysia in early May 2016.

The launching was attended by Mr Albert Teo – Managing Director of Borneo Eco Tours, President of BEST Society and also acts as advisor of MUKEST. Also present, Pius Jaimin – Community Development Manager that will be responsible on all MUKEST projects, Nancy Lamau, Marketing Manager that will help on establishing a MUKEST website to create awareness on the vision and objectives of the association, as well as Yuko Kyogoku, Human Resources Manager of BET who is responsible in bringing student groups to be involved in educational ecotourism trips to Kiulu.

The establishment of this new society was strongly supported by Chairman of Sabah Tourism Board cum Kiulu YB, Datuk Joniston Bangkuai.

MUKEST originally covered three villages – Kg. Mantob, Kg. Dumpiring and Kg. Pinagon Baru – but has now been extended to 10 other villages. The main objective of MUKEST is to introduce solutions and technologies in an effort to improve economy and livelihood of the villages.

At the launching, BEST Society presented a cheque to contribute to the MUKEST initial funding amounting to RM5,000. With the new setup, BET will set aside RM30 for all guests who stay at The Fig Tree and RM10 from its quad bike tour to the Community Development Contribution (CDC) Fund to MUKEST, and MUKEST will be responsible in overseeing the CDC fund to benefit all the community in the villages it covered.
