Improvement for the student hostel, Asrama Bantaran Joy Centre (ABJC)

REF NO : BEST/SBH/KDT/2015/01/32

Tuesday 17 March, 2015 – BEST Society paid a visit to Asrama Bantaran Joy Centre (ABJC) for an inspection on the renovation work.

ABJC is a student hostel that provides accommodation to students from nearby villages to attend school at Sikuati without having to go through hours of travelling from their house. However, this hostel was in dilapidated conditions due to its age. A corporate company, ConocoPhillips step in and agreed to fund RM17,100 for the renovation work.

Upon arrival at ABJC, two volunteers were making two dining tables. We could see some improvements in the building itself. The partly fallen cement roof in the kitchen was replaced with zinc. The broken toilet bowls in deplorable conditions in the girls and boys bathroom were replaced with new ones. The old water tanks were replaced with new ones to collect rain water and to reduce the payment of water bills. The next phase of this project includes painting and land improvement (planting organic vegetable).

During the visit, we had the opportunity to talk to some of the students. They were really happy to see the changes in their hostel and felt more at home. They were glad that they have a better and safer place to stay and study with their friends. Vallera Joseph representing her friends at the hostel expressed their gratitude to ConocoPhillips and BEST Society for making their life better.
