BEST SOCIETY YEAR END SUMMARY 2014

A BRIEF HIGHLIGHT OF BEST SOCIETY IN 2014

As the year draws to a close, it is the best time to highlight on activities and projects for the past 12 months.

In 2014, Borneo Ecotourism Solutions and Technologies (BEST) Society achieved another milestone when it was selected as the finalist of the “Most Inspiring Responsible Tourism Initiative” category of 2014 Wild Asia Responsibe Tourism – the second award for BEST Society. Last year, BEST Society was selected as the Winner of the UNWTO Ulysses 2013 Award for Innovation in Non-Governmental Organizations at Madrid, Spain. We are also a proud member of The Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) Network of the Global Environment Facility (GEF), now known as the GEF-CSO Network. This network serves as platform to strengthen civil society partnership with GEF by enhancing participation, contributing to policy and stimulating action.

Achievements, developments and activities highlighted in this report would have been impossible without synergized effort, contribution and actions by numerous corporate companies, non-government organization, government as well as individuals across the globe.

BEST Society would like to thank our sponsors especially Shell Malaysia Limited, ConocoPhillips Asia Pacific Sdn Bhd, Sabah Development Bank, Sabah Credit Corporation, our partners Sabah Society, Skycommunity, and our volunteers who made these projects possible.

To-date, BEST Society has raised a total of RM 1,304,473.57 with about 55% of the funds generated internally RM 251,649.08 (19%) from Sukau Rainforest Lodge, and RM 469,539.00 (36%) from Borneo Eco Tours to implement community and environmental projects. The balance was contributed by our sponsors.
